Tether has formalized a collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to enhance digital safety and combat financial crime across vulnerable regions, particularly in Africa. The initiative aligns with the UNODC Strategic Vision for Africa 2030, focusing on peace, security, and sustainable development.

Africa's crypto market is now the third-fastest-growing globally, driven by improved financial access, cross-border payment efficiency, and alternatives to unstable banking systems. However, rapid growth has also attracted fraud, scams, and organized crime. A recent Interpol operation uncovered $260 million in illicit crypto and traditional financial activities, underscoring the need for stronger safeguards.

Tether will contribute technical expertise and resources to reduce cybercrime exposure and promote lawful economic activity. The project leverages blockchain tools, education, and local partnerships to address knowledge gaps exploited by criminals, emphasizing prevention alongside enforcement.
